comets sailed in 5 to 15 knots of shifty, southerly breezes on
Saturday 9/14 at Cooper River. Jim Giarusso, who just purchased
Comet 4037 and who last sailed Comets in the 70's, showed up with
no gooseneck. We were able to jury rig it using one of the square
metal pieces from a bolt type nicropress tool and a nut and bolt.
There was enough slop between the bolt and the hole in the tool
to allow the boom to move up and down as well as to swing side
to side. Even with the homemade rigging he was able to give Bob
a scare by staying close right up to the finish in the first race. |
